Father Dan Morris

Fr. Dan Morris
Father Dan Morris
Associate Pastor

Greetings! By way of introduction, my name is Fr. Dan Morris. I want to begin by saying how blessed and excited I was when I learned that I had been assigned as your Associate Pastor, as well as the chaplain at St. James Academy in July 2015. Having heard so many great things about the people and parish prior to receiving the news, as well as having grown up at Sacred Heart parish in Topeka, I truly feel God’s providence at work in being placed here for my first assignment. Know that since learning of my assignment, I have been praying for all of you, as well as anticipating immersing myself in this already vibrant and faith-filled parish.

Although I first felt a calling to the priesthood at a very early age, I did not say yes to that calling until a little later in life. Born and raised in Topeka, KS, I am the youngest of two [older sister]. After graduating high school in 1993, I attended the University of Kansas, receiving a degree in graphic design in 1998. For the next ten years I worked as a museum, visitor center, and halls of fame designer for two different firms in the greater Kansas City area. During this time God blessed me with the opportunity to work on many exciting projects around the country, the last of which was to serve as the lead designer for the Kansas City Royals Baseball Hall of Fame. Following the opening of this venue in the summer of 2009, I resigned from my position in order to enter the seminary to discern a calling to the priesthood.

My vocation story in a nutshell can best be described as God gently and patiently allowing me to discover where I find the greatest peace and happiness, which is in doing His will. Although the work I was blessed to be a part of for ten years of my life was both exciting and fruitful, through a combination of prayer, a few key events, and the influence and guidance of several people, God has revealed to me that serving Him and His people as a priest of Jesus Christ is what truly gives me life. Already in the short time I have been ordained a deacon and now a priest, God continues to show me that His generosity and grace can never be outdone!

Obviously, being a graduate of the University of Kansas, I bleed crimson and blue. Since ordination, I have already discovered the liturgical seasons of Advent and Lent to be a little more penitential, as they require me to vest in purple. I also enjoy keeping up with the Royals and Chiefs, especially now that our beloved boys in blue find themselves back on top. There are not too many things I’d rather do during the summer months than catch a game at the K. In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing sports (i.e. golf, basketball, and softball), and continuing to design and shoot photography as well.

I look forward to not only meeting, but truly coming to know all of you through the various activities, liturgies, faith formation classes, and overall life of the parish. I truly believe that the more we come to know one another in our shared journey of faith, the more we inevitably come to know Jesus Christ. I cannot imagine a better place to continue growing together in holiness than the one God has placed all of us in here at the Sacred Heart of Jesus!
