Jen Zans

Jen Zans
Coordinator of Youth Ministry

Jen Zans joins Sacred Heart Catholic Church as the new Coordinator of Youth Ministry in February 2018. Jen and her family are from Kansas City, Kansas, she attended Cathedral of Saint Peter grade school, then Bishop Miege High School. She graduated from Benedictine College receiving Bachelor’s Degrees in Youth Ministry and Psychology in May 2012.

Jen has a lot of experience with Catholic summer camps. In 8th grade, Jen attended her first week at Camp Tekakwitha where she learned that her faith could be more than just going to Mass on the weekends, after that week she began a relationship with God and heard her calling to be a Youth Minister. She attended Extreme camp in High School and then worked as a staff member from 2008-2010.

In the summer of 2011, she was a Youth Ministry Intern at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in North Kansas City. One of her first tasks was helping to begin a Middle School Catholic Summer Camp for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Camp Savio. For the past 8 years she has worked at Camp Savio, becoming a Director in 2014. Jen also spent 5 weeks in 2013 as a Summer Missionary for a Lifeteen Summer Camp.

One of Jen’s main inspirations for Youth Ministry came from her favorite high school Campus Minister, Mary Perrini who inspired High School teens over 20 years through her selfless service to the students of Bishop Miege and the wider Kansas City community. It is Jen’s hope that we will one day be able to call Mary a Saint, as Jen is assisting with opening Mary’s cause for canonization.

Her experience as a Youth Minister began in 2012 as a part-time Middle School Youth Minister at St. Andrew the Apostle in the Northland. In 2014, she took a full time position as the Director of Youth Ministry for St. Charles Borromeo, where she created a thriving program from the ground up.

On November 11, 2017, Jen married Josh Zans at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church after they met in November 2014 on Catholic Match. Their celebrant was Father Kent O’Connor, pastor of Our Lady of Unity in Kansas City, Kansas. Josh works in Reverse Logistics at YRC Freight.  They currently reside in the Northland, just outside of Zona Rosa Shopping Mall.

“Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.”
