Fr. Viet Nguyen, the new Associate Pastor at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, introduced himself at the weekend Masses of July 7 & 8. If you attended Mass elsewhere, please listen to his homily below; I know you will be inspired. Even if you were at SHoJ this weekend, I have edited the homily with different anecdotes from across all four Masses that weren’t necessarily mentioned across the board; thus creating one encompassing message.
Fr. Viet shares the journey that brought his family from Communist North Vietnam, to the fall of Saigon in the south, to then attending high school at Rockhurst and growing up American. All this while struggling to relieve the tension, and answer the question, “am I American or Vietnamese?”
The audio is segmented into three parts. 1) Fr. Pats’ introduction of Fr. Viet at the beginning of Mass, 2) Fr. Viet’s homily, 3) Acknowledging Fr. Viet’s parents at the end of Mass who surprised him by showing up. After listening to the audio you can look through several pictures at the bottom of the page of Fr. Viet’s first Mass at SHoJ and welcome reception. Enjoy!
