Marriages in Need

Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Kansas City Retrouvaille

Retrouvaille is a proven program for couples in troubled marriages—including those separated or divorced—who desire healing and restoration. Retrouvaille requires the participation of both husband and wife and begins with a retreat weekend followed by ongoing support. The only requirement is a willingness to work on your marriage.

MarriageTeam

MarriageTeam is a Christian-based (not specifically Catholic) marriage coaching program offering couple-to-couple guidance. MarriageTeam focuses on improving communication, resolving conflict, and rebuilding intimacy. It is affordable, effective, and available virtually. Notably, 89% of couples considering divorce chose to remain married after completing coaching.

Marriage Helper

Marriage Helper offers practical, faith-friendly programs designed to help couples in crisis rebuild trust, restore communication, and renew hope in their marriage. While not a Catholic ministry, its values align with our belief that marriage is sacred and worth saving. Couples may explore these workshops and resources alongside pastoral guidance and the sacramental life of the Church.

Prayer, Fasting, and the Rosary

The Catholic Church has always turned to prayer, fasting, and the Rosary in times of trial. These powerful spiritual practices can strengthen your marriage and invite God’s grace into your relationship:

Prayer:

Set aside time each day to pray as a couple. Even a few minutes of prayer together builds unity and opens hearts to God’s healing. If your marriage feels too wounded to pray together right now, begin by praying individually — lifting up your spouse and your marriage to God, even if your spouse is unable or unwilling to join you. The Lord hears every prayer and works through even the smallest offering. Over time, your personal prayer can open the door for reconciliation and healing, and may eventually soften hearts to pray together again.

Fasting:

Offering small sacrifices—whether from food, technology, or habits—can be a powerful way to intercede for your spouse and marriage. Fasting is more than just “giving something up.” In Scripture, fasting is always linked with prayer and repentance. It is a way of humbling ourselves before God, opening our hearts to His grace, and interceding for special needs. When we fast, we are saying with our whole body: “Lord, You are my greatest need — more than food, more than comfort.” Fasting strengthens prayer because it trains us in self-denial, clears away distractions, and helps us rely on God’s power rather than our own. For marriages in difficulty, fasting is a powerful way to seek healing and invite God’s mercy into a relationship.

The Rosary:

The Rosary is not “just a set of prayers.” It is a Christ-centered meditation prayed with Mary, who always leads us to her Son. In every Hail Mary, we are asking for her intercession — and the history of the Church shows us again and again that Mary is a powerful intercessor in times of great need. For a marriage in crisis, the Rosary is a lifeline of hope. Each mystery draws our hearts into the life of Jesus, helping us see our own suffering in light of His suffering, death, and resurrection. Praying the Rosary can bring peace, clarity, and healing — even if only one spouse is able to pray it. When one spouse entrusts their marriage to Our Lady through the Rosary, they are placing their relationship in the safest of hands, and inviting Mary to gently soften and heal hearts over time.

St. Padre Pio called the Rosary his “weapon,” teaching that it is one of the most effective prayers against the attacks of the devil — including those aimed at marriages.

Prayer For Healing in Marriages

Heavenly Father,
You have joined us together in the holy Sacrament of Matrimony. We thank You for the gift of our marriage and ask You now to renew and strengthen us in Your grace.

Lord Jesus, heal the wounds in our hearts and in our relationship. Help us to forgive as You forgive, and to love as You love. Be the center of our home and our family.

Holy Spirit, pour out Your gifts of patience, peace, and faithfulness upon us. Teach us to listen with humility and to speak with charity.

Blessed Mother Mary, Spouse of the Holy Spirit, intercede for us and wrap us in your mantle of protection.
St. Joseph, guardian of the Holy Family, pray for us.
All holy spouses and saints, pray for us.

We entrust our marriage to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary,
 now and forever.

Amen.
